GIAAC Selection Standards
Island Games Aland 2009

  1. Achievement of standard(s) guarantees consideration of selection. 
  2. Island Games Standards to be achieved during the 2008 summer season 
  3. Athlete will need to 15 years of age on the first day of the Games to eligible for selection.
  4. Where the athlete has only just achieved the standard once they maybe asked to back up their selection by achieving the standard further times. Hence achieving the standard numerous times will increase selection chances
  5. Good standard event have been specially organised for you the athletes and to promote the sport and all athletes wishing to be considered for Island Games Selection are expected to compete in all local high profile events such the Fortis Meetings, the Blue Island Match and the Inter-Insular in the qualifying year (2008) and Games Year (2009). This will be taken into consideration for selection. Athletes need to speak to Rob Batiste if any of the below dates pose a problem
    Fortis GP 1 - Wednesday 14th May, Fortis GP 2 - Wednesday 25th June, Blue Island Match - Sunday 31st August, Inter-Insular (in Guernsey) - Saturday/Sunday 6th/7th September
  6. Final Team selection to be confirmed by - date tbc (likely April 2009)
  7. Where more than 2 athletes have achieved the standard - the selection committee will make the final decision - note this will be based many things such as competitive performances, participation in the Inter-Insular/Fortis GP & Blue Island Matches, current fitness, standards achieved within the event(s) as well as other performances/competitive indicators.
  8. The selection committee reserves the right to not select or de-select anyone who fails to meet any of the criteria above.

2010 Commonwealth Games Standards

Criteria

Anyone who qualifies for the National Outdoor Championships as of right 24months prior to the selection date will be eligible for selection for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

As in the case of the Island Games it is important that athlete's wishing to be selected support both the club and the sport.

B Standard qualification

These only apply to athletes who qualify as part of a relay team. Should an athlete qualify as part of a 4 x 100 or 4 x 400 relay team, they maybe able to participate within an individual event, provided they have achieved of the B standard. Only events where the B standard has been achieve are they able to compete.
