OSA Recruitment Cross Country Series
Race 5 - Footes Lane

Steve Dawes confirmed his class with an emphatic victory in the final race of the 2008 OSA Recruitment Cross Country League.

Dawes broke clear from the start and steadily drew clear of Alan Rowe over six mile long laps of the muddy Footes Lane course and eventually finished over a minute clear in 36 minutes 51 seconds.

Rowe was a clear runner-up a further 35 seconds clear of Ronan Shally. Shally's improvement over this winter season will put him in good stead for next year's island games but his third place on the day was not quite enough to overhaul Dave Dyke in the overall league standings. Dyke's 5th place on the day was enough to claim overall third behind Dawes and Rowe.

Louise Perrio was again leading woman but could not quite do enough to overtake Dan Smith in the Division 2 standings. Despite being 4th on the day Smith had already done enough to take the prize by 2 points, 71 to 69.

Perrio will be joined by the next finishers Martine Scholes, Sarah Mercier and Katrina Thompson in what promises to be a strong women's team for next months County Cross Country Championships to be held in The New Forest.
