GIAAC Cliff Path Race
7 Miles Pleinmont ­ Manor hotel, Petit Bot

Gail and Dave Merrien were the stars of the GIAACıs 7 mile cliff path race from Pleinmont to Petit Bot.

Gail finished exactly six minutes clear of Caroline Wickham to head the womenıs field while Dave, a relative newcomer to distance running, was an impressive third behind Nick Despres and Mike Doyle.

Doyle got the race off to a fast start but taking up the challenge Despres stormed to the front and had built up a substantial lead by the Prevoste Tower 4 mile point. By his own admission Despres struggled over the final stages but still clocked an impressive 46 minutes 17 seconds to finish over two minutes clear of Doyle, who rallied over the closing stages.

One notable absentee from the leading places was a rather red-faced Paul Ingrouille who, thinking the race started at 10 am, turned up over twenty minutes late for the 9.30 start. Ingrouille could offer no excuses ­ he is on the three man sub committee responsible for setting the season's race timetable !!
