Marcel Le Clerc finished his preparations for next week's inter insular cross-country championships with a victory in the GIAAC's 7 Mile Road race.
The trio of Mike Doyle, Le Clerc and Steve Dawes soon pulled away after the Grandes Rocques start and stayed together until the Vale Church three mile mark. Dawes appeared reluctant to take the lead but was able to respond to Le Clercıs mid-race surge as the pair drew clear of Doyle on the run towards Pembroke Cross-Roads. Le Clerc continued to apply the pressure and edged clear as the duo passed the L'Ancresse Lodge 4 mile mark.
Once clear le Clerc drew steadily away and crossed the Bulwer Avenue finish line with a winning margin of 36 seconds in a time of 39 minutes 46 seconds.
After having his training disrupted by shin splints Doyle struggled over the final stages and faded to finish over a minute behind Dawes in third.
Such is Le Clerc's consistency that he is almost expected to head every local race but, after the event, he was quick to point out that it was his first outright victory in over six months. Despite this he is confident in his form and should feature strongly in next weeks championship.
Fitness specialist Gail Merrien made a rare outing to finish first woman.
