Australian duathlete Javie Dance made a positive start in his first race on Guernsey soil and almost stole the honours before eventually succumbing to a well paced run by Paul Ingrouille. Dance led the field of 50 out of the Footes lane track and quickly built up a 10 second lead over a pack of Ingrouille, Jason le Ray and Steve Dawes.
The lead stayed at a tenuous 30 metres until the 4k mark where Ingrouille moved clear of Le Ray and caught the early leader at the half way mark. The tall, long striding, athlete kept on Ingrouille's heels for the next 3Km before tailing off on the rise past Houge du Pommier hotel. Le Ray continues his steady improvement and claimed well deserved third place.
Despite the hot conditions the GIAAC's Bank Holiday 10km road race has traditionally been the curtain raiser to the winter season. It is clear that an injection of interest caused by the HealthSpan Half Marathon and Abacus All Terrain Challenge.
All Terrain Challenge competitors Marcus Prevel, Tim Johns, Toby Grice and Steve Wilkes continued their close rivalry with Prevel proving strongest on the day. They were split by Island Games silver medallist Penny Buckingham who placed an excellent 10th overall.
