HC1 -
GRANDE ROCQUE TO VALE
CHURCH
5km
SUNDAY
17th SEPTEMBER 2000
Starting off a 7 minute handicap Ian Le Moigne cut through the field and passed long time leader Paula Evemy in the final 300 Metres to win the opening race of the Sarnian Roofing winter road & cross country Handicap League, a 5km road race from Grande Rocques to Vale Church. Evemy had started enthusiastically and quickly moved clear of starting partner Samantha Ingrouille. At the Ronez half way point Evemy led Ingrouille by 20 seconds with Jan Bird a further 30 seconds behind. At this point it looked likely that the early starters positions were secure but by Houmet the competitive racing of a tight pack of runners starting on 4,5 and 6 minute handicaps was bringing the field together.
Le Moigne was clearly moving quickly through the field and with 800 meters remaining was up into second and bridging the gap to the leader. Along with colleague Bryan O. Meara Le Moigne is currently training for the Himalayan 100 Mile stage race and the punishing program, which exceeds 50 miles running per week, is clearly paying off as both runners proved in Sundays outing.
Alan Solway was a distant third just ahead of Reg Williams. Locked in battle with Shanine Wray for most of the run Williams was the fastest woman in an actual time of 21 minutes 2 seconds a mere 4 seconds faster than Wray. Handicap backmarker Mark Anthony made light work of his 10 ½ minutes handicap to pass 28 runners on his way to 10th place and in doing so was fastest overall in 16 minutes 31 seconds.
