HANDICAP -
GRANDES ROCQUES TO VALE CHURCH
(5km)
SUNDAY 26th NOVEMBER 2000
Seamus
Russell hit the front halfway through the race and cruised to a comfortable win
in the GIAAC’s 5 km road handicap race. Russell
was tracked past the early starters by Helen Tucker and Ian Garner but entered
the last kilometre with a lead of nearly two minutes and his only real threat
came when he briefly veered off course within the final 200 meters. Tucker
caught and passed Graham Le Poidevin within the final kilometre to clinch second
while a sprint finish saw Garner edge out Le Poidevin for third.
Terry
Greening’s fifth place was enough to maintain his lead in the six-race league
with Garner moving up into second and Eric Le Breton’s ninth place also
keeping him in contention.
Andy
Fooks was the fastest runner on show with a brisk clocking of 15 minutes 7
seconds, 50 seconds faster than Marcel Le Clerc. The strong tailwind aided
fastest women Debbie Doherty and Helen Tucker below 20 minutes for the first
time.
League
Positions 1. Greening 30
pts; 2, Garner 34; 3, Le
Breton 39; 4, Solway 43; 5, Mark Anthony 50.
