GIAAC Winter League Race 5
L'Ancresse Full Course
Sunday 7th May 2000
Garland back in hunt
With the London Marathon and Easterruns over afor another year, it was time to get back to some local horn-locking, as the GIAACs Winter League 2000 resumed at a summery LAncresse.
Paul Ingrouille was the winner of the 4.75 mile race, run over the traditional full course, his time a hippy 26 minutes 28 seconds.
However, the main Division One interest centred on the battle for second, as Lee Garland triumphed over league leader Nick Despres to give himself an outside chance of claiming the title in the final race of the Jones and Partners sponsored series on the 28th of this month.
Val Phillips, on the other hand, can afford to miss that event, as her 14th place out of nearly 60 starters guaranteed that she will finish top of Division Two. Her time of 31.18 was the quickest womens time by some three minutes, with Shanine Wray second across the line in 32nd place, and Helen Tucker a minute behind in 36th.
Geoff Ogiers victory in Division Three means that, depending on the performances of other competitors in that league, he could still overhaul long-time leader Paul Vaudin.
Only two points separate Alan Solway and Alun Williams in Division Four, while Paul Sextons win in Division Five springs him into title contention with Sylvia Jouhning and Eric Le Breton.
