Ingrouille supreme on roads and coastal paths
Paul Ingrouille carried on where he had left off in the previous week’s GIAAC Winter League race – out in front – as he led home a 30-strong turnout in the annual Church to Church race, by over 16 minutes.

Run in conjunction with the Opta Xtreme Fitness Challenge Ingrouille was always in control. He looked totally composed throughout the 19.75 mile event, and was almost a minute a mile quicker than his nearest rival as he returned to the Havelet Bay start and finish point in 1hr 55 minutes and 48 seconds so taking the club’s long distance championship, as well as regaining the lead of the Opta Challenge. At the halfway stage of the 12 event Opta series, Ingrouille now has a three point advantage over Bob Duquemin, who must nevertheless be pleased with his sixth place in the race, two places behind Tim Johns who now ranks third overall.

Paul Cherry was runner-up for the second year in succession, knocking half a minute off his personal best of 12 months ago. Colin Ozanne’s third place was his best result so far in an impressive first season with the club.

On the other hand, Caroline Wickham’s athletic career has spanned everything from 400 metres to the marathon, but the revitalisation that she is enjoying is obviously paying off. She not only led the women home, but also moved up to seventh overall in the Opta standings. The second and third women, Nicole Inder and Alison Jefferies, have also not escaped notice and both are making a good return to form.
