Ninety-three hardy souls braved the wind and the icy squalls to burn off some of the Boxing Day calories over the full cross country course at LAncresse. But nobody could catch Alan Rowe who strode home in 27 minutes 35 seconds, a minute and seven seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Paul Ingrouille.
The course was strewn with large puddles and, around the Mont Cuet headland, big stones thrown ashore by the high tides. It would have been easy to turn an ankle or fall flat on your face, but Rowe stayed vertical to register another comprehensive victory.
There were many other notable runs. Carl Thompson was closing in on Ingrouille by the finish under Rocque Balan and finished in third, half a minute up on Nick Despres. Barry Marley was first veteran in ninth overall while not too far behind young Andrew Mauger was first junior in 18th place. On a day when times were forced up by the headwinds and the Christmas food blitz, Tracey Queripel was again first woman with a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds. Chris De La Mare was first woman veteran to finish 48 seconds after Queripel while Debbie Doherty again ran well to be third woman.
