800mtrs Track Race Rules

CHANGES FOR 2007

Division 1 will be run as a single race using the 'DEVIL TAKES THE HINDMOST' format. In this format, the last althlete across the finish line in each lap is removed from the race until there are only two athletes remaining who race out for the final lap. A pace maker will run the first 250m of each lap, during which time the pace maker cannot be overtaken, at the 250m mark the pace maker will step aside leaving the athletes to race to the line. The last person across the line will be eliminated. This process is repeated until there are only two athletes remaining. The time award is 5 sec per place.

Divisions 2, 3, and 4, will be raced as in previous years. The changes are as follows:

Time award is 5secs per place.

Ladies will get a 100m head start, to counteract the power difference between sexes. Hence ladies will start at the beginining of the back straight by the hockey club.

The races will be 800mtrs (2 laps) with the first 100 metres run in lanes, with a draw for lanes. Each division will be split into two semi-finals according to the general classification after Tuesday's race.

SEMI-FINAL A will contain competitors in positions 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13 etc.

SEMI-FINAL B will contain competitors in positions 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15 etc.

Those who do not qualify for the  A final will be in the  B final

Time Awards

Time will be added to general classification according to overall finishing position within the division. The winner of the  A final will have 0 seconds added to overall time, the 2nd placed competitor 5 seconds, 3rd 10 seconds etc. The winner of the  B final will have 5 seconds more than the last competitor in the  A final added to the overall time. Subsequent finishers will incur an additional 5 seconds each. so for example if the winner of the B final gets 70 seconds added the 3rd placed runner will get 80 seconds.
