The GIAAC has been invited to send representatives to the inaugural Ultra distance and Mountain Running Commonwealth Championship in Keswick, Cumbria, England 17-19 September 2009. Please note that the event is associated with the Commonwealth Games Association but it is not an event within its auspices. The GIAAC is inviting local athletes to be considered for selection for the event and selection criteria is enclosed on the link. As this is the first time that the event has been held the Club is not sure about the level of competition and therefore as more information is made available we may need to revise standards. The final date for consideration will be 31st July - unless there are exceptional circumstances such as a race after that date. If you are interested in being considered please contact Louise Perrio (Cross country team manger ) or Alun Williams - the Commonwealth Games Association representative for the Club.
The deadline for notification of expression of interest is 30th June.

Mountain Running Standards

Consideration Race: Snowdon International Mountain Race, Sat 18th July 2009. website

Men: top 40 finish
Women: top 100 finish

Ideally the competitor should be within 20% of the winning time (as representative of a high national standard) but it is understood that this is an unreasonable parameter attempt to adhere to within a single race. Therefore, no absolute time standard is set for this event, but is expected that the competitor will attempt the highest placing possible rather than relying on placing 39th, for example.

To be achieved and notified to GIAAC the working day before the CGA deadline.

Ultra Distance Events Standards : 100km, 24hours

Men: 2:40 for an accredited marathon (26.2miles) and evidence of completion of competition in applicable discipline.
Women: 3:00 for an accredited marathon (26.2miles) and evidence of completion of competition in applicable discipline.

To be achieved and notified to GIAAC the working day before the CGA deadline.
